Tivo did me wrong!

So much for my best friend, Tivo. For some reason it didn't record Survivor. :( I think I can go online and watch the episode there, but what a disappointment!! I also have another dvr on the downstairs tv, so I guess I could record it down there next time. I did, however, watch the 2 hr premiere of Grey's Anatomy. I thought it was pretty good. I like the new army guy that I have a feeling will be back in the future. My favorite character is Dr Sloan ( McSteamy). I think he is really hot and he is hilarious! I would like to see him and Izzy together. I do not like Dr Karev- he is ugly and is a total a-s-s! I also watched The Office, which did not dissapoint! I loved the ending, of course. I will not say what happened at the gas station in case someone hasn't watched it yet. I like the new lady that Michael is after, Holly I think. She is funny. That is one of the only shows that I actually laugh out loud to. Since I have all this space on our other dvr, what other shows should I be watching??

My Best Friend= my Tivo

so I know of at least one person (BreeAnn) who gets as excited as me about "my shows". I just looked at my Tivo schedule for tonight and this surge of complete happiness and excitement came over me. Then, when I realized why i was so excited, I felt a little pathetic. But I am over that now and back to pure excitement and anticipation. Why do I get so attached and involved in a certain few TV shows? As a mom of a 2 year old, it's definitely not that I am suffering from boredom and this provides my only source of entertainment. It's not that I am addicted to TV because during the summer, I literally did not watch any tv at all for months straight. Well, I don't have an answer to why, but the fact remains that I literally look forward to Thursday the whole week long. If I took one of those email surveys right now where one of the questions is "what is your favorite day of the week?" I would have to answer THURSDAY! My favorite Thursday shows are, in no particular order: Grey's Anatomy, Survivor, The Office, CSI and ER. I think most people agree with me on Grey's Anatomy and The Office- everyone loves those. Survivor has been going now for like 10 years or more and it is basically the same thing every season. Oh sure, they add a twist here and there but it is basically the same thing- people getting really stinky and dirty, living in the wild and competing in physical challenges for a million bucks. I think part of the draw for me is that I am one of those people who think I could probably do pretty good at Survivor. In a pre-kid lifetime, I may have even tried out. But for now, I will have to watch others steal my glory. My oldest obsession is- ER! I think it was probably George Clooney that got me hooked at first. I can't say it's my favorite show anymore, but I still record and watch every episode religiously. This is the last season and I can't wait to see what happens and how it ends. So, needless to say, I will probably be blogging a bit about my shows and giving my opinions quite regularly. I just want to know 1 thing- what did people do before dvr's and tivo? There is no way you could record 3 things at once with a VCR. So for today,(and every Thursday) something I am VERY grateful for is TIVO!

Thank you Jeffrey!

Thanks to my awesome husband I was able to enjoy an awesome, relaxing weekend in Vegas with my friend Jaime and sis-in-law Leslie. Not every dad would be thrilled with the idea of taking care of a 2 and 6 year old for 4 days straight! They had a great time of watching movies, playing video games, eating lots of meat, working in the garage, mowing the lawn, and doing other boy things I probably don't want to know about. :) When I got home last night, the house was still in tact, pretty clean actually- and the boys were both fed and bathed. Who could ask for more? In Vegas, we enjoyed the nice warm weather and sat by the pool. We also found time to attend the Janet Jackson concert (which was AMAZING- Leslie's favorite word), eat some good food, do some shopping, and play a little craps. It was nice to have a fun break, but was definitely glad to get back to my guys!

Happy 100th Birthday Grams!

I am thinking of my great grandma today. She passed away last year, just shy of her 99th birthday. She would have been 100 today! We all thought she was going to make it too. She is one of my heros and is one of the most amazing people i have ever met. I am so lucky that I got to spend the first 30 years of my life with her in my life and that my kids got to meet her too. She faced many challenges throughout her life and endured til the end. She was always positive and upbeat and was as sharp as a tack, til she passed away. She lived by herself in her little white house from when my great grandpa died when i was little til about 6 months before she passed away. She was always busy doing something. She had a garden that she maintained by herself til a little bit before she died. She loved to read and made a daily habit of reading her scriptures, while she pedaled her little stationary bike. She was an awesome seamstress and made so many blankets, quilts, dolls, you name it that we couldn't even try to count. When we were little she would usually make all of the grandkids something. A doll, or doll clothes, doll blankets. She was the one who made my "blankee" that I slept with til I got married and by then it was in tatters from the use, abuse and washing throughout the years. I still have it and even though it looks like a rag to most people, it is one of my prized possessions. Grams made the most delicious cookies in the world. Everytime we would go to her house, she would have some dough in the freezer and would cook up a batch of cookies. She gave the "recipe" to lots of people, but no one could ever make them as good as grams. As she was busy cooking or cleaning up or doing whatever, she would always be humming or singing a tune to herself. I miss her so much and wish she could be here with us as we celebrate this great milestone today, but I know she is happy where she is at and with her loved ones that she had to live without for so many years here in this life. Love you grams!!!

Lake Powell

We took our annual Lake Powell trip a little bit differently this year. We took our trailer instead of going on the houseboat like usual. We had a BLAST! We went with my parents and my brother Nate, his wife Leslie and their baby Eman. (Evan or Little E) The boys had so much fun playing on the beach in the sand and the water!
Grandpa Jim Bob wrote their names in this sand cliff and they thought that was pretty cool.
We snorkeled and looked for "treasure" at a couple of the beaches. Nate found the best prize- a pair of prescriptions glasses that turn dark when they get in the light. They were probably pretty expensive glasses and whoever lost them probably had a crappy time for the rest of the trip. :)
Little E was quite the trooper and he had lots of fun too! The weather was perfect and no one got sunburnt! How often does that happen? The water was higher than it has been in the past but we thought it was maybe a little bit colder than usual. We were at Bullfrog instead of Wahweap so that may have a little to do with it too. My favorite part was taking the boat up the Lake and driving down some big, beautiful redrock canyons. We haven't done that for many years and that was always one of the highlights for me when I was growing up. We also did a fair amount of wakeboarding and skiing. Nate showed off his mad skills at wakeboarding and Grandpa Jim Bob and Jeff impressed us with their pro skiing. Grandma Debbie got a new nickname this weekend- grandma Dory! Dawson got to sleep with Grandma Debbie in the trailer and apparently started talking the second he woke up, before Grandma was completely akake. In a sleepy state, she asked him the same question twice and he was apalled! So, thus, the nickname- Grandma Dory. (as in Dory from Finding Nemo)

Lincoln aka Dennis

So my sister thought this picture went well with my last blog. I think I need to buy some red overalls, blue and black striped shirt and we will have Lincoln's Halloween costume!

Lincoln the Menace

So I kind of hesitated to even put this on here because everyone is going to think that I never watch Linc and just let him fend for himself, but this happened in a matter of probably 3 minutes. He went and got out the toothpaste and got that all over EVERYTHING from the bathroom to the kitchen, then he moved the chair over to the counter, got out the salad tongs, used those to get each apple out of the bowl, took one bite of each, then spit the bites back out. I think he was working his way over to the bananas when I caught him in the act!

Labor Day Weekend

For Labor day weekend and also for Randy's birthday we went down to St George and rented a really nice house with some friends. The house had a pool and we all had a really fun time, just hanging out and getting some sun. The boys loved swimming and the house also had a ground-level trampoline and a swingset that was a lot of fun for them too. The weather was perfect, not too hot like we thought it might be.

Randy's Birthday

So some of these pictures should have gone with my blog about Randy's birthday dinner, but I just got ahold of Jeff's camera, where they were. We pretty much celebrated his birthday the whole last half of August!!! It was so much fun! We went to dinner at the Olive Garden after the whole Cheesecake Factory thing and it was DELICIOUS! Look at all of those good looking Forman men!! Us ladies are definitely outnumbered!

Toothfairy Came Last Night

So the toothfairy came last night and left 6 gold dollars for Dawson's tooth. He was so excited this morning and the first thing he asked was if 6 dollars was enough to buy him and Lincoln ice cream from the ice cream truck. I thought that was so sweet of him to want to buy his little brother an ice cream with his tooth fairy money. He is a very generous and thoughtful boy and I am so lucky to be his mom. Everyone comments on how nice and well mannered he is. I am convinced it was nothing I have done as a mother, but rather he was just born that way. Otherwise, how do I explain Lincoln????

Dawson's First Loose Tooth

I have mixed feelings about the fact that I just pulled Dawson's first loose tooth out! I can't believe he is so big and growing up so fast... it kind of makes me sad. But at the same time, it's so fun to see him reach each milestone and see how excited he is about it each time. This tooth has been basically "hanging on by a string" for a few days, but today we decided to pull it out. I told him that Grandma Debbie told me how to do it. She has "the technique" down and is famous for pulling out teeth. The most memorable one being the time that we gathered up enough money between everyone so that Hannah let grandma pull out a tooth that had been loose for a while. Hannah bawled and bawled and as the blood ran down her face, she cried "what have you done to me?" It didn't turn out to be as much fun as we thought it was going to be. :) Poor Hannah. I guess that's what you get when you're the first grandkid. Now there have been quite a few teeth lost and no one really cares anymore. (Except for maybe Brandon's "rogue" tooth that was so loose and then turned backwards and reattached itself. ) Anyways, I guess i have inherited "the technique" because Dawson didn't cry, wasn't scared, and said it didn't hurt a bit. Go mom!

Show and Tell w/ The Rockstar

Since Dawson is one of the kids in his class with a summer birthday, his teacher asked us to celebrate his birthday this week. He is the "star student" and gets to bring in one thing for show and tell each day. On Tuesday he took his favorite Webkinz at the moment, Fasty, who is a gecko. Yesterday he took his Bioncle that he got for his birthday. He really wanted to take Sturgis and today happened to be the only day that Jeff could go with us. The thought of me trying to handle Sturgis and Lincoln (mostly Lincoln) in a class full of 1st graders was a little too ambitious for me. Especially first thing in the morning. :) So, he was a big hit with all of the kids. The teacher asked the kids if they had any questions for Dawson about Sturgis and there were some pretty good ones. Some questions they asked were, "How big is he", "how old is he", and my personal favorite-" how fast is he? I don't think we have actually clocked him running, but I know it takes him about 2 leaps to get across the whole front yard, and that when he is running at full speed, if you are in the way, you WILL get knocked over!

Pink Nesquick

How nice is it when your kids can do something for themselves? Pretty nice when they can dress themselves, or make their own bed or brush their own teeth? Well I thought it was nice that Dawson and Lincoln could get themselves snacks if I was busy or in the middle of something. I didn't, however, think about the fact that the Nesquick powder is right by the snacks in the pantry and it might be a little too enticing for a 2 year old to resist getting it out and "decorating" the cofee table and himself with. I also didn't realize that when you get it wet, pink Nesquick turns RED! Thanks to Lincoln I learned something new again today! :)
